Urinary urgency refers to a sudden, strong, and difficult-to-control urge to pass urine. Patients often describe it as a feeling that urine must be passed immediately, sometimes with fear of leakage.
Occasional urgency may occur after drinking excess fluids, but repeated or worsening urinary urgency is not normal and usually indicates an underlying bladder or urinary condition.
When evaluated early, most causes of urinary urgency are treatable and manageable.
